Hey all, i had a backup running fine from my web server to a test backup server running ubuntu 22.04
i have made a new production backup server but can't for the life of me get the SSH connection test to work - at the moment am just testing it with connection type : password, once am happy with it i will use a access key
WELL! as of writing this i thought i would create a new user on the production backup server called svr01uk with a basic password and it worked - spent 2 days trying to figure out why it would not connect to ssh, not sure if its me or a bug but thought i would carry on writing this post.
the first ever backup i created on my test backup server with the username was cwpbackup worked fine so it cant be the username BUT the user was just a user not a sudo user am not sure if that's an issue.
On the new backup server i used the same username cwpbackup and i used the password &UJ3fDz2XHTEm% ( a generated password) i want to give you as much details as possible so thought i would show the password i used. I tested the connection using ssh terminal from my web server to my new backup server and it connected fine so the connection is fine that way.
It failed when doing a connection test on the backup manager_2 screen, i disabled firewalls white listed IP's but nothing worked. now after starting to write this post i just thought i would create a new user on my backup server that i want to use in production did that and it worked fine.
My question is why wouldnt a sudo user called cwpbackup with the above password not connect but a new user would. I wanted to see if its me doing something wrong.
I was thinking could it be the following why it didnt work
- You cant use a user that is in the sudo group
- Does it not like having % or & in the password field
- Does it not like using the same username on more than one scheduled backup
- or am i just being stupid and its something else.
I really hope the above makes sense, writing this as quick as i can before i need to head out.
Thanks so much for reading.
