Title: Heavy GUI Slow Menu
Post by: ashokjp on November 26, 2014, 02:06:40 PM
I am posting this just to confirm if anyone else is having same concern. If its a common concern, I hope CWP team considers this as a positive feedback

The menu on CWP admin (left menu), it takes 3 seconds, sometimes 6 to expand after clicked.
It drags the whole point of GUI.

It feels like working on a low end PC too slow to process.

I tried on 3 -4 pcs Intel i3, i5 with 2GB free RAM and still same. also repeats across all browsers.

----
If this cannot be fixed, atleast a link on top to expand all menu at once would make it more convinient.

Also the dashboard
It keeps updating process details / memory statistics every second.
We should have an option to turn it off. We sure can login without stats, but as soon as we go to some other option and return it still returns.

It just makes the whole GUI too heavy at times.

I support "ashokjp" opinion on navigation delay. Will you do anything about it? Because navigation sidebar is static so why this delay?

new cwp 0.9.7 has an option to disable load, and all live stats which are slowing down menu response.

Where is that option, the one that is on login? Because that does not fast things up. And are you sure that the load is making menu heavy sliding? Because menu is one time loaded and then using javascript opened and closed right?

by clicking on the load you can disable load.

Menu is still slow. Menus should be instant on click.

You can force menu expansion onload using jquery with easy as a temporal solution.

I use GreaseMonkey, but for a "al pc's solution" you need to edit at least one file of the install. (ie, the index.php)

I got also the slooow menu issue even with load disabled.

The problem i about the main screen, not just the load function.

All the data on the main panel has a little time interval to refresh. Every time you click on the menu, all the panel seems waiting for synced javascript code execution untill you can press a item again.

If you go to some other menu section and play the menu doesn't became slow.

I guess all this is about sync/async javascript functions.

In my experience the main shortcoming is the sub-menus that need to be fetched with javascript/ajax everytime you click that portion of menu...
I guess having the whole menu already loaded would be a big boost in the surfing experience

my two cents!

Little buttons, less scroll, less wait :D

I too would say that the menu is slow
I vote for static menus that get loaded when first loggin in which is reasonable
it really feels laggy the way it is now

We tried this product last year, but it was not ready for prime time. It did not have a file manager and other features. We use Webmin/Virtualmin which is a great product but we wanted to try something similar to cpanel look and feel. Well loaded it a few days back. It has come a long way, with file manager, but no zip extraction utility, or download option. So to me it is useless, just view files, which I can do with Filezilla.

Now to add to this topic, menu is very very slow. Slower than last years version. So whatever happened between last year and now, broke the left navigation menu. click - wait for 3 -5 seconds for drop down to move. Completely worthless. I read the suggestions about javascripts and different opinions. I am no programmer so I come from a end users view point. If I have to click on a menu and then get a cup of coffee before the drop down works, guess what I am not using this.

My one suggestion for the developers of this. You have created a beautiful product that is close to cpanel. So please have some non programmers test the thing and listen to end user feed back instead of getting caught up in programmer speak. Have this beautiful GUI actually work. The button on the top of the left navigation does nothing either.

Comparing it to Virtualmin/webmin which is the other end and gives you too much info. But we were able to add templates to Virtualmin and make it look like this and hide a lot of the functions that end users do not care. We want to offer an alternative to cpanel to our users and as such their feed back is our prime driver.

So please fix these issues. I am using the latest version.

The "lag" issue goes beyond just the navigation menu roll down.

Go to a page with form input fields, ie. Add Email Account.  Quickly type a long string in the password field... I have had letters skipped in doing so.  Pasting a string into fields has also occasionally resulted in the pasted text being truncated.

Hopefully the overall problem causing these issues will be addressed in the next release.

slow menu is only related with slow/overloaded servers, you can disable top5 process list and live load, this will improve left menu speed.

New fresh install server. With just one test account. Almost zero traffic and process. Still have the exact same slow navigation. Left menu, few seconds to load if you're lucky (Admin Panel, not Client Panel).

Sometimes, it's not responding when click and need a second click. This is really weird...

if you have a slower server then you need to disable a live load in your admin area if you want to speed up your menu.
