httpd stopped after removal of user

I deleted a user via the CWP panel (the only user) and replaced it with another. Now httpd won't run, telling me the old user does not exist. Trying to recreate the old user ends up with an error telling me "ERROR! Check All Fields (only lower caps are allowed and no special characters)! "

Help! How do I fix this?
