Password help
« on: January 17, 2019, 09:24:21 PM »
Ok let me start with I am not super linux savvy.... I can follow instructions when I am properly caffeinated :P although lately the coffee has not helped me figure out my password...

I had it so it was saved I thought - and wouldn't need to type it every time....

This is the ROOT CWP password on a self managed server....

However.... my tech guy and I did change it (or I was pretty sure we did) but either way NONE of the ones I wrote down are working and I cannot login and my tech guy is out of town....

I know ALL passwords can be changed via ssh with a simply command typed into putty...

can anyone help me with this so I can access my CWP again?

The command to change the password in shell prompt is:
Code: [Select]
# passwd

However, to you do it with ssh, you will need your password to access/login it.

If you can't get in, you will need to have phisical accesso to your server, and put your server in rescue mode, starting it with a CD/DVD/pen-drive, to you can change your root password.
