Title: How to verify file integrity?
Post by: gryzor on April 17, 2015, 06:47:16 AM
Hello!

Last night I realized my server was sending out spam. In a hurry I shut it down and went to bed. Today I woke up, booted it, enabled the firewall (I was in the middle of the installation and hadn't finished setting it up) and after a few minutes I got the following email:

Quote
The following list of files have FAILED the md5sum comparison test. This means that the file has been changed in some way. This could be a result of an OS update or application upgrade. If the change is unexpected it should be investigated:

/usr/sbin/csf: FAILED
/usr/sbin/lfd: FAILED

The problem is, how do I know whether this was due to an update or something nefarious is going on? Is there a way to verify?

Thanks!

it's normal: you enabled the firewall and those files are csf and lfd config files
