Title: rDNS/PTR check for IP 192.168.1.150 = not found!
Post by: x1705 on July 04, 2018, 03:11:55 PM
How can I fix this?

Your Hostname is: srv.XXXX.net and it resolves to IP: 173.XX.X.211 [Check Black List]
rDNS/PTR = 173-XX-X-211.client.mchsi.com SUCCESS [Check SenderBase]

**Above shows "SUCCESS"** but then below shows this (and why is it checking my LOCAL IP?)

rDNS/PTR check for IP 192.168.122.1 = not found!
rDNS/PTR check for IP 192.168.1.150 = not found!

******************************************************************************************************

I have tried manually adding a PTR record to srv.XXXX.net 173.XX.X.211.in-addr.arpa
(i don't know if i did it correctly, but nonetheless, it still shows that 'error') ~ or is it a 'glitch'?

*******************************************************************************************************

Advice on resolving this (step by step) as i am not real comfortable fidgeting with DNS much. :)
My system works fine, all sites are online, etc.. just this 'error'.

Thanks in Advance.

Hmm, I could be mistaken, but i think that the rDNS/PTR for a LOCAL IP, needs to be changed at The I.S.P. (Internet Service Provider)'s END.

If any one else knows different, please feel free to reply.

Thanks!

May I know where exactly you are getting the above error? If possible provide me a screenshot.

sure, thanks.

it's listed under:

[Change Hostname] and [Postfix Mail Server Manager}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Change Hostname
Don't forget to rebuild the mail server with the new Hostname.
Hostname should be only as a subdomain, like: srv1.mydomain.com, please don't use cloudflare protection with hostname as this will cause you issues.

Hostname change will also generate a new Hostname autoSSL Certificate.
Certificate Path: /etc/pki/tls/certs/
Key Path: /etc/pki/tls/private

Your Hostname is: srv.XXXX.net and it resolves to IP: 173.XX.X.211 [Check Black List]
rDNS/PTR = 173-XX-X-211.client.mchsi.com SUCCESS [Check SenderBase]

Any Ideas?  (i'm thinking it is an ISP call).. worth a second option (or more) though.

@24x7servermanagement, you have one AWESOME website!!!   8)

did you create that? or did you hire someone?  I may be interested in something similar (eventually)..

Thanks!!

Hi everyone.
You have to talk to the server provider or your ISP for the setting rDNS/PTR. ;)

Same issue.

Reverse DNS (PTR) is correctly set. I can verify this from online tools.

My IP is 173.249.22.198
My server is server.sslhosting.in

But in 'Change Hostname' option I see

Your Hostname is: server.sslhosting.in and it resolves to IP: (ERROR: You don't have a valid hostname set!)
rDNS/PTR = FAILED, check with your hosting provider! FAILED

Try setting different resolvers, or have some patience - up to 48hrs.

Its done quite sometime back. PTR is resolving in online tools. Anyways let me wait

Yes

Currently resolv.conf has

Code: [Select]
# Generated by NetworkManager
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4

When I run command

Code: [Select]
host 173.249.22.198
or

Code: [Select]
host anydomain
I get the output

Code: [Select]
host: parse of /etc/resolv.conf failed

LMGTFY

One assumes that you have a static IP set.  ::)

1. I tried 5 different DNS servers

2. I am spending last 12 hours in Google. Let me see if Yahoo search throws some answer.

Any help from others?

OK. I'll bow out. :-X

Limited info & ignores help eg.static IP. Spoon feeding is too messy.
Same server/IP for own nameservers doesn't exactly inspire confidence that this person should be even running a server.  ::)

I got solution finally from

https://forums.centos.org/viewtopic.php?t=8660

Here is the answer that worked (Althogh not completely tested by me yet)

Code: [Select]
Is this host a server? If so, disable NetworkManager... as it was really designed for laptop use (example roaming wireless) and not a server which is typically configured with a static ip. To this day it boggles my mind as to why Red Hat includes this on a server image. In my opinion it should not be installed period, but since they insist on putting it in, it should at least be disabled by default. OK, enough of my rant...

Disable NetworkManager - chkconfig NetworkManager off

Stop NetworkManager - service NetworkManager stop

Change the NM_CONTROLLED=yes to no and save file

Restart networking - service network restart
