Setup rDNS on a standalone physical server
« on: July 21, 2020, 03:28:16 PM »
I have installed CWP and everything went quite well until I found out that all my emails are landing in the spam folder of the recipient, I surely need to add rDNS record, so I started looking up for help online on how to setup rDNS in CWP, unfortunately everyone's talking about asking your hosting provider to set it up for you.

Here's my scenario, I purchased a physical server, subscribed for bandwidth and static IP and installed my server by enabling DMZ host, everything is working fine except for the emails. I have tried a thousand ways but nothing worked. When I go to "List DNS Zones", I click on "Check Records" here's the result I get;

"rDNS/PTR record check: SUCCESS
rDNS/PTR = ; <<>> DiG 9.11.4-P2-RedHat-9.11.4-16.P2.el7_8.6 <<>> -x +short @8.8.8.8;; global options: +cmd;; Got answer:;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NXDOMAIN, id: 12280;; flags: qr rd ra ad; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 1;; OPT PSEUDOSECTION:; EDNS: version: 0, flags:; udp: 512;; QUESTION SECTION:;+short.in-addr.arpa. IN PTR;; AUTHORITY SECTION:in-addr.arpa. 2508 IN SOA b.in-addr-servers.arpa. nstld.iana.org. 2020071869 1800 900 604800 3600;; Query time: 174 msec;; SERVER: 8.8.8.8#53(8.8.8.8);; WHEN: Sun Jul 19 23:22:51 PKT 2020;; MSG SIZE rcvd: 116
rDNS A record = [Check SenderBase] [Check RBL]

Checking with google if domain is hosted on this server: FAILED"

Google check fails but it says that rDNS/PTR is successful.

Now when I go to "Change Hostname"; here's what I see;

"Your Hostname is: panel.domain.tld and it resolves to IP: 182.180.xx.xxx [Check Black List] [Check CWP SSL] [Check WebServers SSL]
rDNS/PTR = FAILED, check with your hosting provider! FAILED [Check SenderBase]"

Just to tell you that I have installed it on vmware!
I don't understand where am I going wrong. Help would be much appreciated.

Like too many people: the rules/advice don't apply to them!

You need to read a bit more?
Try asking your Google about NXDOMAIN?

Hi,

Have you resolved the problem of rDNS?
Actually I am facing the same issue with my dedicated server, as you mentioned everyone was asking to contact the ISP.
I too have my own dedicated web server i.e. CnetOS 7 with CWP Pro installed, I am facing same problem with Mail Server.
Can you please guide in this?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Nilesh Shinde

An rDNS record is nothing you can set up in your Domain Zone.

rDNS is on your public IP and MUST be set up from your ISP. This is no record you can simply create like a sub domain.

Call the ISP and tell em you need an rDNS.
