This does not work for me. I cannot login with root using the root password

I cannot login with any of the users either. Their passwords do not work.
When I go to FTP Accounts in the panel I get this:
FTP Management
**FTP Accounts needs to be added from the users panel.

you should check on your settings, don't forget that for root user you need to use SFTP and not FTP.
For other CWP users you will probably need to open passive ports on the firewall.
