Title: Best way to configure DNS
Post by: entheo on May 20, 2017, 02:15:14 PM
Hello All,

I was wondering if i could get some advice about DNS settings please?

My VPS host recommends that i use their nameservers for everything (registrar, web panel and their own dns manager) and use A records pointing to my ip which i have done but other places including my registrar recommend using my own nameservers registered to my server ip address.

Can anyone tell me which is the best way to set up my dns please, i.e. using host nameservers vs my own.

Many thanks,

Ps. I switched from vesta to cwp yesterday and am loving it! Its a great project and more my kind of panel!

They all will do the job so I guess it comes down to what you're looking for and what best suits your needs. Research things like performance, location & features etc.

I use Cloudflare for my DNS and enjoy all the advanced options and services that come from them.

Ok thanks, so it might make sense to use hosts nameservers in my case as mail setup etc should be configured properly.

One more thing, how should i edit the nameservers in cwp? I mean if i add my hosts namerservers, what ip should i add after it, my server ip address, the ip addresses related to the hosts nameservers or can i leave it blank?

Yup add the nameservers in CWP here -DNS Functions > Edit Nameservers IP

Use the sub domains and IP's of the nameservers you will be using.

Update:

I decided to switch my DNS to Cloudflare based on 6sense's recommendation and i am very happy with it.

Centos 7, CWP + cloudflare is a winning combination for me.
