I am on CentOS 7 as recommended but I will be looking at moving/migrating to AlmaLinux.

CWP should make AlmaLinux the recommended OS like cPanel.

I don't think it is a difficult thing to do because cPanel already allow you to save the sever settings in a server backup.

This would be the server settings and not client data. I can see there might need to be checks on import for such things as the presence of a particular PHP version. A message once import is finished saying what was not imported and what needs to be done. Maybe even a pre-import report telling the admin what he needs to manually install before import.

Further uses would be

  • CWP to CWP when moving from stream to alma
  • Backing up your server settings
  • Allow cloning of your server for testing
  • Potential sharing of your server settings with a colleague

is there a single list of all of the config files that I would need to copy if I wanted to transfer all my settings etc.. to another CWP server.

Example scenario: I  have done a new install on Almalinux and want copy my setup there

I know about user account migration tools but if there is a manually option for completeness those file locations could be added here.

@Starburst - Yeh lot of programmers have not made the changes for PHP8.x, I don't think it is that difficult.

I found some useful links that might help:


AlmaLinux is supported by
  • Microsoft (including Azure, WSL subsystem)
  • cPanel
  • Plesk
  • Amazon
  • CloudLinux

So I too will play with this one first.

Not done this yet but very easy to upgrade CentOS 7 to Alma (or other RHEL based distos) using almas software. Just follow the link in the FAQ on the home page for more info and instructions.

I am not experienced at linux but I am good with windows and PHP programming.

My CWP Pro is on CentOS 7 and I have to do a workaround to install HTTP2 because the OpenSSL libraries are no longer updated.

Obviously CentOS7 should no longer be the standard base OS to install CWP on.

I am still confused which OS to use Rocky/Alma Linux and if there are any know compatibility issues now or predicted in the future. I am not sure that CentOS Delayed is the way to go because it is a testing bridge for redhat.

Does anyone have in-depth knowledge on which one OS I should choose and why?

I am not running a hosting company. I am just running my own websites locally. I reckon a good portion of CWP users are the same as me. :)

Also I am running in VirtualBox which allows me to power down and do a Full Veeam backup, and soon I will setup automated backups to my TrueNAS box.

I will backup, run the command, and see where I get up to. I also have links to manually updating MariaDB.

Thanks for the feedback. This will all get added to my Tutorial/Setup Instructions.

How are us end user supposed to update MariadDB?

I thought when the updates were minor or patch level then you could just update.

I am a windows user so all of this is complicated

I have the same issue:

CWPpro version: 0.9.8.1128
Distro Name: CentOS Linux release 7.9.2009 (Core)
Kernel Version: 3.10.0-1160.53.1.el7.x86_64
Platform: x86_64

I think I installed the minimal version of CentOS as per instructions.

Is the solution to run ?

  • using the contact form to suggest features and report bugs is impractical and the wrong way to do things. There is no track-ability, only restricted details can be sent, double posting will be an issue and also this channel should only be used for commercial support or security risks that cannot be public.
  • bugs and features should be reported at bugs.control-webpanel.com and if CWP are not going to use this then it should be closed and people told not to bother reporting bugs and requesting new features.
  • Trackers like GitHub can be a great source for information when people get issues. Support on this channel should absolutely be banned and only used for real bug reports and valid feature requests.

I do NOT need support, I just need to report things  :) :) :)

  • First thing I did was purchased the Pro license even before installing the software
  • I dont have a paid support contract with CWP
  • Where did I demand anything?? A bug is a bug.
  • I was going to spend time writing up the bugs I found if they are going to be looked at by CWP team. Reports take time done right.
  • I have got feature requests that would be good for the software and I will type them up if they also get looked at.

Thanks, I will get all of the bugs/issues I found into the issue tracker.

Can I post feature request in the bug Tracker?

Have you considered using Github for issue tracking? Much easier for uploading images.
