Problems installing joomla 3.7
« on: June 26, 2017, 07:54:38 PM »
Hello guys and gals,

I have a problem installing joomla on my set up and was hoping someone may have a suggestion on how to sort my problem....

I have been using softaculous premium demo and everything works perfectly but i just logged onto their site to buy premium license and they only accept payment by paypal which is a no-go for me now as have recently closed my paypal account. Softaculous may be overkill anyway as i only want to run a few sites on my vps and i would prefer to install manually.

I am having trouble installing joomla manually. Everything is ok up until the part where i point browser at my domain and i get a 500 server error page. I tried this today and a month ago and always the same problem.

Joomla folders have been unzipped and are in root folder for the user account.

I have tried disabling csf and then mod-security to see if that is the problem but still the same 500 page.

DNS is configured correctly for domain.

Anyone have any ideas why i cannot get to install screen?

Many thanks,
Entheo

Have you checked Apache error_logs?

If you found mod_security is causing this issue then check this post :-

Thanks for the reply.

I am fairly sure that it is not mod_security that is causing the issue as my live joomla site was installed through softaculous with mod_security on with no issues. I tried yesterday with mod_security disabled and &i still had the issue.

I will check apache logs later but it is just strange why all works ok with auto-installer but not manually.

Ok, i have checked apache error log, do you think this may be the problem?

[Mon Jun 26 18:23:13.440495 2017] [:error] [pid 31870:tid 140164099729152] [client 108.162.229.51:34764] SoftException in Application.cpp:350: UID of script "/home/myuser/public_html/index.php" is smaller than min_uid

There are several lines like this in the log.

I am wondering if it is an ownership issue now as i uploaded the joomla files to cwp as root and not as the user?

:) Yep that was the problem. I fixed account permissions for user (impressed how easy that is to do with cwp!) and all sorted now.

Thanks for the replies and the advice you both gave to check apache error log.
