Not official yet but he said config is 100% copy of the official.

I would suggest saving a snapshot first.

by following this tutorial will it tie in with the php selector etc or could there be issues?

Id prefer to keep 7.4 as the default and just have 8 installed for experimenting on

Don't see a Ioncube version for PHP 8 yet.

But PHP 8 isn't backwards compatible. So this could get interesting.

Problem is ionCube still only supports up to PHP 7.4 (even the new version 11.0.0).
No PHP 8.0 support yet.
