CWP centos7 to CWP Almalinux 9 Migration Planned
« on: November 25, 2025, 04:16:14 PM »
Hi,
I am finally planning a migration from centos7 to a new server running hopefully AlmaLinux OS 9

But i read many posts on here saying that the automatic migration is not working on AL9, is that still the case?

I could go to AlmaLinux 8, but the EOL is only in 3 years, and i do not wish to migrate again so soon.

Also are there any news about AL10?

Thanks

Alex

I just moved my last holdout legacy CentOS 7 system over to AL8. A couple of previous servers were no problem to use the CWP Migration feature to move them from CentOS 7 based systems to AlmaLinux 8. But this last system was a stubborn beast so I had to manually migrate it -- but now I know how to move up to AlmaLinux manually, so if you had to you could manually migrate to AL9. But by far the easiest route is to migrate to AL8 using CWP Migration, then at a later date ELevate to AL9.

As you have heard, CWP is in beta for EL9 systems and one thing that is clearly broken is the CWP Migration API under AL9. So you can't migrate using their toolset from CentOS 7 to AL9. My recommendation is to take the intermediary step of going to AL8 which then has a clear path forward to AL9 or AL10 when the time comes.

No news about AL10.

I've tried a couple other control panels that say they 'support' AL10.
But they are all flaky.

Doing the ELevate process on a production server scares me a bit, i have never done it (in the past i always have setup a new server with a newer OS every 6-8 years and migrated the sites/emails from one server to the other)

Right now i have been stagnating on Centos7, paying for the extended support, because i'm not sure if i should wait for AL9 or go to AL8 and again in 3-4 years do an other migration...

It's better to setup a new server.
ELevate could leave some ghosts in the system.

AL8 is good with security updates until 2029-05-31

AL9 is active until 2027-05-31, with security updates until 2032-05-31

And AL10, IF CWP version ever gets that version going, is active until 2030-05-31, and security updates until 2035-05-31

Seems like CWP main problem is they are still trying to support the older obsolete OS'es like CentOS 7 and PHP versions.
That seems to be holding back the needed development for the new OS'es that is needed.

They need to kill CentOS 7 support, it's been long enough past EOL and work on AL9 and AL10.

Other control panels have done this, and some have AL10 versions out or coming out soon.
While CWP is stuck on CentOS 7 and AL8.

[End of rant, I apologize]
