Hello everyone,
I have been using CWP Pro for several years, and overall it has served me well. However, over the past year I have become increasingly concerned about the future of the project, and I would really like to hear the opinions of other users.
As a system administrator, I need a control panel that is actively maintained, secure, and able to keep pace with modern hosting requirements. Unfortunately, I have the feeling that CWP is falling further behind compared to other control panels.
Some of my main concerns are:
New PHP versions seem to take a long time before becoming available.
Some updates appear to fix issues but also introduce new bugs or regressions.
The backup and restore system has caused me several problems. In my opinion, backups are one of the most critical features of any hosting panel, and reliability is absolutely essential.
Development seems slower than it used to be, and new features are released less frequently.
Communication regarding the project's roadmap and future plans is quite limited.
Technical support has also become a concern for me. Although I pay for a support plan, I have experienced response times of 5 to 10 days for some tickets. For production servers, such delays can be difficult to accept when an issue requires prompt attention.
This leads me to a simple question:
What is the long-term vision for CWP?
Many competing panels such as Webuzo, DirectAdmin, and Plesk seem to be evolving much faster, with quicker PHP support, frequent updates, and more modern backup solutions.
I am not trying to criticize CWP or start an argument. I genuinely want to understand whether other administrators share the same concerns or if my experience is unusual.
I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts:
Are you still confident in CWP's future?
Do you trust it for production environments?
Have you experienced issues with backups or restore operations?
How has your experience with technical support been?
Are you satisfied with the current development pace?
Are you planning to stay with CWP, or are you considering moving to another control panel?
Personally, I am at an important decision point. I am preparing to deploy a new production server and must decide whether to continue investing in the CWP ecosystem or migrate to another platform.
I sincerely hope CWP continues to grow and improve because it has many strengths. However, I believe the project needs to demonstrate a stronger development roadmap, faster adoption of new technologies, more reliable backup and restore features, and more responsive technical support if it wants to remain competitive in today's hosting market.
I look forward to reading your experiences and opinions.

Starburst and Overseer probably have some information—and since this topic has come up again (there have been discussions about this on the forum before)—has the CWP installation script been updated? Or does it still come with PHP 5.6 after installation, requiring you to go through everything one by one and update it? I'm losing my patience; the situation is a disaster. I’m stuck monitoring cobbled-together servers, hoping that this panel will finally have a stable version—one where all the tools, packages, and services are up to date right from the moment of installation—since the communication regarding its updates is absolutely abysmal...
My advice—I don't know how many CWP Pro servers you have (I have over 20)—is that if you only have a few, RUN—look for other solutions!

I think it's first time when i post here, but i was an admin that i use CWP, but for about 2 week i migrate from CWP to Webuzo, and i have no regret.
Also they have migration tools from CWP and everything work great.
Also they have a great support.
Only minus that, in my opinion, is price, is not so cheap like CWP, but you will have included support in license price.
Maybe this information will help other user that want to move from CWP.

I'll offer a different perspective as it's not like they're football teams & you're supposed to go with one or the other. I run CWP & CPanel servers & both have their own pros & cons. CWP is fantastic cost wise, simple to use & does most things well, I actually prefer the node.js setup but maintenance can be very hands on. CPanel is more stable, practically maintenance free & feature rich but comes with a much heftier price tag, is more complex to use & is always trying to sell you other subscriptions.
I'm led by what the client wants, if price is the most important factor they get CWP hosting or if they want full featured and are prepared to pay more they get CPanel hosting.

And what about PHP versions 8.4, 8.5, and 8.6? Are those a priority too? The current versions will be obsolete soon.

Great on the other hand we encounter a problem with the restoration a bug in the base file here is the return
We are experiencing a problem with the new local backup restore feature on our server.
The backup files are present on the server and appear to be complete and intact. However, the restore process does not start correctly.
Whenever we attempt to restore an account, the process consistently gets stuck at the "Detecting files" stage and makes no further progress.
The restore log repeatedly shows the following information:

We have verified that the backup directory exists and that all backup archives are available.
Based on our investigation, it appears that the restore utility is generating an incorrect path and attempting to locate a non-existent backup archive, even though the backup data is available at the correct location.
Could you please check if this is a known issue with this new local backup restore feature?

ModSecurity has disappeared, and wp2shell has started hitting all the servers from a multitude of IP addresses; you’re releasing this version as an update without even testing it? Do you realize these are production servers? You are really making a mockery of all CWP users.

I think mine modsec works i keep getting emails of blocked IP's
Had a few bugs since last night update but for now I see few problems:
Firewall module: The module firewallv2 does not exist.
Mod Security: just keeps loading and stops.
Before this CWP was offline with cert error which I did fix with command from other post.
Apache stoped to work also had to rebuild new version which is good but think configuration files are overwritten also sites which are loaded with index.php went back first index was index.html

I ditched cwp last year for virtualmin and never looked back. I had used cwp probably for 5 years with no significant developer advancements. cwp has more bugs than windows. No one cares, no one replies except members of the forum. In the first years, there were many big contributors, but they have all jumped ship or just lost interest. Life goes on. The new generation has no patience or interest in fixing the absolute worst choice for open source webpanel.
Virtualmin is stable and after a year i have never encountered a single bug. GUI is excellent but takes a while to adjust after using cwp for many years. I am running on ubuntu. and you should too. Centos days are done. When I hear centos I think Netscape, netmeeting, and Napster.
Centoscwp doesnt even advertise this forum on their website. And there is a good reason why they are not doing so. They dont want potential new users to learn the truth. On the positive side, this forum is now operating on https after 12 years of no ssl certs.
Stop wasting your time and switch to virtualmin or aapanel. Signing up for centoscwp means daily visits to this fixit forum for the next 5 years. Over the past year I have never needed to visit any support forum for virtualmin.

Firewall GUI is mostly fixed in 1.6
If you are running CSF 15.10 you can access everything to the bottom left of the menu bar.
15.10 installed it's own backup.
The GUI for ModSecurity is currently broken. :/

Please, it is very important to fix the backup system, which has been preventing any account restoration for weeks.

Also crontab selection for users hangs as well.
Easy fix to ssh in and then sudo, but it would be nice to see all the cron entries via the cwp display.
Should be added to the fix list.
Confirming 1.7 just came through.
I am sticking with CWP, trying to help get it back on track over these long summer days.
