php switcher can't switch to 8.x because of memory
« on: December 21, 2023, 08:12:30 AM »
Hello,

when using PHP switcher on CWP (installed yesterday on almalinux 8.9) to switch to any version of PHP 8.x i see often the error:
virtual memory exhausted: Cannot allocate memory
The VM has 2GB of ram (because of free litespeed license).

after i upgraded to 4GB temporarily, i could install with the PHP switcher to PHP 8.x.

1. i posted this so people know.
2. CWP could either put a message or somehow fix this.

2GB is bare, bare minimum to function but leaves no room to move. I regard 4GB as more of a realistic minimum. But that said, none of my servers have less than 6GB of RAM allocated to the CWP VMs.

i switched, as a test, to cyberpanel with the same configuration (litespeed enterprise 2GB) and i have all php version preinstalled. same resources...
and i don't see for 1 domain that sometimes has more or less traffic to put 6GB ram.

I agree with @overseer, 2GB RAM is minimum. 4GB if you will be running everything in CWP.

We have a DNS cluster slave server with 1GB, but it's running only BIND.
