Problem with AlphaGNU's PHP Manager Upgrade
« on: October 21, 2026, 09:24:45 PM »
Anyone else tried AlphaGNU's PHP Manager to update PHP to the latest to fix security hole and notice WordPress Breaks?

And when I says 'Break", I mean it BREAKS, stops working at all, and shows an Unknown PHP version.

I'm having to downgrade PHP to get WordPress working again.

It's worked without a hitch for me, on both Almalinux 8.10 and 9.8, updating both php-fpm and fastcgi versions.
And, just to confirm, all wordpress sites running on these servers are also still working just fine.

These site use PHP Switcher (PHP-CGI).

Both are on AL 9.8

Great, something else do deal with ontop of this PHP mess.
At least php.net release a new version with the bug fix.

I was forced to update php directly myself today on CWP. It is working, everything is 8.3.36. I have disabled all panel ports and nginx redirects.

Multiple servers with almalinux 8 and 9 here.
Updated with the AlphaGNU PHP Manager.
No issues at all.

check the logs. Probably is an extension.

Are you updating just PHP Selector / PHP-FPM?

Or also the main PHP Switcher?

Seems like if you leave the base PHP Switcher alone at whatever version, and upgrade just the other(s) it's OK.

Using PHP-FPM here with Sandeep's php-manager. Doesn't seem to break WP sites, but I'm on AlmaLinux 8. And a few sites use legacy PHP versions (5.6, 8.1). I have notified them and given due warnings, but they can't move up due to template/extension compatibility issues. But everything else is on the just-released 8.3.36 version (a Drupal site).

Found the problem.

It is with the Sodium extension.

If you have a WordPress theme that uses/requires it, is when you run into the problem.

Waiting to hear back from Sandeep.

I am using CentOS 7 and PHP 7.4 for an email server.
I noticed that the instructions in the link SandeepB only apply to EL8 or later.
How can I update PHP on CentOS 7?
