Installation / hostname and postfix config borked
« on: January 29, 2018, 04:50:30 AM »
Hi Guys,
Thought I'd give feedback on my first use of CWP.
Very straight forward, excellent install instructions and simple install process.
Now, here's the grief.
#1 hostname borked.
As part of the install instructions you set your hostname and reboot. After reboot I had my new hostname, and proceeded with downloading and running the install script.
After the installer rebooted the PC and my hostname is back to localhost.localdomain.
#2 postfix config borked.
I ran through the install on a Centos 7.1708 minimal install.
Install steps used / followed: http://centos-webpanel.com/installation-instructions
After the install, when viewing the postfix config file: /etc/postfix/main.cf, there's a configuration option soft_bounce=yes. Please note that setting this will force failed emails to be retried forever with no timeout or expiry. For example an email to an address that doesn't exist, a resend attempt will be made over and over, instead of sending the NDR back to the original sender. This will go on for weeks until someone notices and does something about it. Either the receiving party blocks your IP or you run out of disk space due to log build up.
Anyway, thought I'd share in the hope that the product can be improved. Spammers use these sorts of products and they tend not to not have the most up-to-date records, nor give a hoot about things like never-ending-email-resends. Removing that config option (the postfix default is soft_bounce=no) will result in that much less bandwidth getting wasted.
