Apache / Optimize Apache

Hi, I'm new to cwp7 and I need help to optimize apache, it confuses me that there are two configuration files and I don't know which of the two I should edit or adjust.
These files are in
/ usr / local / apache / conf / and /usr/local/apache/conf.d/
I need to adjust values since the site hosted in this vps is receiving 500 to 1000 daily visits
