backup is NOT stopping mysql...so its probably related with some issue with one of the databases/tables try to run mysqldumpo manually for each database to see which has issues.

you would need to check process on your server and then check the logs to see what is the issue...it could be some kind of attack, script issue or anything else...if you don't know how to check it then you can take one time support for detailed report about your issue.
