Title: How to upgrade Apache, PHP, MySQL & phpmyadmin?
Post by: Farukh Khan on February 02, 2015, 10:59:35 AM
Hello,

I have recently installed the CentOS Panel 0.9.7 in my VPS Server. Now I want to manually upgrade my apache, PHP, MySQL and phpmyadmin because all my clients want the latest stable release.

Is there any way in which I can do so???

And please add the latest versions apache 2.4, PHP 5.6.5, MySQL 5.6.23, phpmyadmin 4.3.8 in the latest CentOS Web Panel Upgrade 0.9.8. I know upgrading the php to the latest release might create some problem to old php scripts but if it get so then please upgrade all the other things except php. MySQL, Apache & phpmyadmin deserves to be upgraded.

One thing I felt really weird about CWP is that the version 0.9.7 has been release on 08/12/2014 but still after installing the panel I see Copyright 2013 at the login page. And also about this website it says Copyright 2014 but the year running is 2015.

And have you guys decided the release date of 0.9.8???

Thanks in advance.....

There is one thing I want to say more that after testing CentOS Web Panel I would rank it more than other free panels out there. It is a very good web panel indeed.

Why don't you guys make the web panel open source on github? This would really help all of us. We will be able to contribute to the Web Panel Core Project. I have got many ideas on how CWP can improve a lot.

We should always practice to use the most latest or recent version of any software. That's why I asked the latest versions of php, apache, mysql and phpmyadmin on the latest CWP release. Latest things comes with many security and bug fixes along with many new features. So, I think that using the most recent version of everything is the best choice.

Also make CWP CentOS 7 supported because centos 7 is the most recent release and might got huge amount of fixes.

Thanks...

Why I will do for sure but please upgrade the whole panel : apache, php, mysql, phpmyadmin, ftp etc. to the most recent version in the latest Version 0.9.8 (coming soon) release. That will be very grateful...

If it is a pressing issue, you can always update phpMyAdmin manually. For CWP, phpMyAdmin is located in

/usr/local/apache/htdocs/phpMyAdmin/(source: http://forum.centos-webpanel.com/informations/centos-configuration-file-locations-%28cwp%29/ (http://forum.centos-webpanel.com/informations/centos-configuration-file-locations-%28cwp%29/))

You can download the package from http://phpmyadmin.net (http://phpmyadmin.net), backup your config file, and replace all phpMyAdmin files with their new versions and then replace your new config file.

I tried that brandon. That doesn't work. The latest phpmyadmin need atleast MySQL 5.5 to run. But CWP has 5.1.17

That's why that system also doesn't work. CentOS panel developers should upgrade all structures of the web panel along with php, apache, mysql, tomcat, phpmyadmin, mod security, ftp etc. to the most recent version to provide us all the latest features and fixes.

I understand your frustration; however, I think you also have to keep in mind that this is a free web-panel and it will take some time to get the latest versions of everything.

You could always update everything yourself ^^

I understand brandon. But If I upgrade everything myself then there might be some unexpected bugs and also some memory leaks could occur too. That's why I asked the CWP developers for the upgradation. As a free panel I understand that it will take time but the upgradation of all the modules of CWP is very much needed at this moment. I also asked that if the developers could make the CWP open source in any github repository then we all will be able to contribute to this project. And in this way many new features and bugs will get fixes very fast and also testing will be done greatly. If CWP developers would do that then it will be very great for both the customers and the CWP.

Thanks...

MySQL upgrade can't be done automatically since this depends on your applications.
You will need to make a manuall backup of add databases and then run mysql upgrade.

In some newer version we will have a script to do all that.
But anyone can join CWP development and start building by itself.

It is a good question. Are those scripts supposed to be paid?

Hello. I have it updated, but I am asking about those scripts in the changelog of  0.9.8.3. I can see the scripts in their folder, but there is no reference in the CWP.
