There are 2 paths that I'm aware of so far.  The CWP team is offering Cent OS Stream support through their own delayed repos and also RHEL 8 is now free for up to 16 servers.

Here is an article about RHEL 8 being free for up to 16 servers: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/01/centos-is-gone-but-rhel-is-now-free-for-up-to-16-production-servers/

Here is the email about how the CentOS Web Panel team will be handling Cent OS Stream support in the future since CentOS 8 is EOL at the end of 2021.

---

Hello,

As some of you already know that CentOS/RedHat decided to support only CentOS Stream in the future, here is some info about the end of the life for each version:

- CentOS 8 till the end of 2021
- Centos 7  till June of 2024
- CentOS 8 Stream will be only supported as an upstream version

Our plans are to have custom delayed repositories of the CentOS stream which will allow us to make the CentOS Stream a stable version.
We have already deployed and tested our own repositories for CentOS 8 Stream and we will keep multiple repositories allowing you to choose between the latest (default CentOS Steam), stable(CWP-repo), and delayed multiple stable versions(CWP-repo).
Management of the repositories for CentOS 8 Stream will be done from the CWP.admin and our plan is to have it released this month in December 2020.

Many people are scared about the CentOS 8 Stream but we see this as an opportunity to provide the latest new features to all our clients and with our custom repositories we can also guarantee stability.

There is also some news about additional new Linux branches coming from CentOS, we will probably support the best of them.
Some already announced coming soon is the CloudLinux OS.

Please note that currently we still recommend CentOS 7 as the best version to get installed as it also provides our CWP Secure Kernel which is very important for server security and especially for shared web hosting servers.

MySQL / Re: Any plan to upgrade the MariaDB in future releases?

@Starburst,
I just upgraded to Mariadb 10.5 on CentOS 8 as well. Are you seeing an issue where the MySql Port in the CWP panel is listed as "MySQL Remote" even though it is 3006 when I check?  I posted about it here, but not sure if I did something wrong or if this relates to the change from "mysqld" to "mariadbd".

Upgraded MariaDB on CentOS 8 to 10.5 by following this guide (https://www.mysterydata.com/update-upgrade-to-mariadb-10-4-on-vestacp-cwp-centos-7/#comment-4631) with Cent OS 8 repo and everything appears to be running fine, but on the CWP Panel under Application Version it lists the MySQL Port as “MySQL Remote” instead of “3006”. I double checked with netstat -tlnp that it is in fact running on port 3006, but I’m assuming this is a bug because CWP is looking for msqld and MariaDB switches from “msqld” to “mariadbd” with 10.5.

Is this correct thinking?  Is there any way to fix this so CWP looks for mysqld OR mariadbd?

Good news for those with 16 or less servers in production.  RHEL 8 will be available for free on update 16 servers!

Hi,
Since the new just broke that RHEL will be free on up to 16 production servers, I had a couple questions as we are planning our possible migration.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/01/centos-is-gone-but-rhel-is-now-free-for-up-to-16-production-servers/

Questions
1. First I wanted to ask if CWP can run on RHEL 8?  I'm assuming it can since Cent OS was basically the free version of RHEL.

2. Assuming that RHEL 8 is supported then the question is am I going to run into issue converting from Cent OS 8 to RHEL 8 following these instructions provided by RHEL. (https://access.redhat.com/articles/2360841)  It sounds pretty straight forward, but wasn't sure if this can happen with CWP installed or if I need to do a fresh install of Cent OS 8 (my VPS provide doesn't offer RHEL as a fresh install so the conversion method is my only option) then convert to RHEL.

I never got an answer to my question here, but I resolved my issue by editing the pureftpd files directly using the guide on stack overflow here: https://serverfault.com/questions/289068/how-do-you-change-a-pure-ftpd-virtual-users-username-login

Also I see that their are directions to migrate from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream.  Can these be used to migrate with CentOS Web Panel or does it require a clean install?

Migration instructions: https://www.centos.org/centos-stream/

Hi,
I just read that CentOS 8 support will end in 2021 and that CentOS Stream will be the replacement going forward.  Does the CentOS Web Panel support CentOS Stream today and if not should we expect support later in 2021 since CentOS 8 will be EOL in 2021?

I'm seeing the same thing.  Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

For anyone else asking a similar question.  I found this resource which helped me get started on optimizing MariaDB.
