Installation / How to migrate CWP - CWP 2nd time for existing site?
« on: October 24, 2022, 06:27:44 PM »
I am setting up a new CWP server. Haven't made it the live server yet.
As part of my config/testing, I copied over all my websites. They all work great, 100%! Including SSL certificates.

HERE'S MY PROBLEM:
I did the test weeks ago. I need to do "the big switchover" which includes copying over the latest databases, files, etc.
For some simple sites I can just upload the changed files by FTP. But 2 of my sites are quite complex. I'd like to use CWP - CWP migrate feature, but I can't do that without deleting the sites first! And that would mean undoing the (manual) work I did to get SSL working.

Is there some way to "restore a backup" from another server, or something? Basically use a PART of the CWP-CWP migrate script/process? Because right now, there's a green checkbox and I can't check "Just update files please" or anything like that.

It seems to be a very useful, necessary feature.

Addons / How to install Mod XSendfile
« on: October 22, 2022, 05:27:06 AM »
Here are the instructions
https://tn123.org/mod_xsendfile/

But I can't run apxs because that would involve using the plain-vanilla Apache2 that comes with Alma Linux (etc.) rather than the one managed by CWP.

How do I install this simple module in Apache2?

Really I'm after both.

I was just hoping to do this as efficiently as possible.

Information / Best way to transfer settings from CWP to CWP?
« on: July 18, 2022, 09:52:38 PM »
I have CWP 7 installed on an existing server, and I'm upgrading to a new server. Replacing the old one.
Where are all the config files I need to copy over? When I make changes to the various menus, where are all those settings stored? In a database, or in some text file?

I'd like to do it via text/config files, rather than clicking a bunch of menus and doing it the long, slow way.

Again, I don't believe in magic. I click the left menu "CWP Settings" and the first item "Edit Settings". There are about 9 fields that can be filled in. WHERE IS THAT INFORMATION STORED? It has to be found somewhere on the hard drive. Google has been no help thus far. I've seen a few threads that talk about mail and MySQL config, but those aren't an issue. I am mostly looking for the config file(s) for CWP itself.

Thanks in advance for any help --

Matthew

Installation / Re: Centos 7 still the recommended version?
« on: July 08, 2022, 05:15:29 AM »
I need to post a correction -- CentOS 7 is end-of-life in JUNE 2024, not December as I assumed.

So it's even worse than I thought. Less than 24 more months of support, or life, left in CentOS 7 -- and that's currently the "recommended" or "official best" option according to the CWP project.

So I'm supposed to install an OS with a less-than-2-year life on my brand-new server, on which I spent $2.5K and likely won't ever be wiped during its expected 4 year lifespan? Not an option for me, or most people in my position.

Quote
CentOS Linux 7 will reach end of life on June 30, 2024, the same date that RHEL 7 enters the next vendor support phase: RHEL 7 Extended Lifecycle Support. After this date, CentOS 7 will no longer receive any security updates or bug fixes from Red Hat.

Rocky linux and almalinux both work good with cwp.

I appreciate the suggestion, and it's probably the best option I've seen so far.

But I still want to ask --
Can anyone SECOND this recommendation? In this thread, only "Martins-phpbb" has recommended it. Surely someone else has tried Rockylinux and had a good/bad/in-between experience with it?

Thanks!

P.S. Here's a summary of this thread so far:

Martins-phpbb: RockyLinux or almalinux
Namaste: Just wait a year or two, see what CWP comes up with closer to the 2024 deadline
iraqiboy90: CentOS8-Stream-Delayed
Admin: crickets. Still CentOS 7 I guess? Even for a $5K server you can't/won't upgrade for 5+ years, despite CentOS 7 being dead-in-the-water in just 30 months?

Rockylinux SHOULD be a good option, at least on paper, if it's truly a clone/fork of CentOS. It should be the same or highly compatible with CWP.

Can anyone else recommend/vouch for Rockylinux?

I think I'd rather go that route, than mess with a terminally-ill, doomed OS like "CentOS 7" which is set to die in Dec 2024.

I'm building a VERY nice server (at least by my standards), spending over $2K, and I'll certainly want to use this server for more than 2.5 years.

Short version: We are already in the "red zone". Most people use a server for around 3 years before replacing it. CentOS 7 only has 2.5 years left in it.

This issue will become more urgent the closer we get to 2024 (the end of support for CentOS 7).

I hope CWP understands this fully. A solution needs to be found. Yesterday.

Well I am not able to wait until closer to the CentOS 7 support cutoff (Dec 2024) when CWP will be forced to pick a new "stable" OS to build upon.

One of my clients is paying for the new server -- so I have to pick an OS. But as I said, I want it to last 3-4 years. I don't like spending all my time messing with hardware and server stuff. That's not my main thing.

Namaste, can you elaborate on what problems you had when you tried to use their "Delayed Stream" branch of CentOS on your new server? They claim it's plenty stable. Is that not entirely true?

I'm in the same boat. My current/last server was built Feb 2019 -- almost 3.5 years ago. That's the expected life of a webserver I build and use. I don't have time to mess around with wiping machines/migrating, etc. It's a big deal to create a new server, install CWP, configure everything, move the sites over, then transfer from one server to the other and shut the old server down.

I do this once every 3 1/2 to 4 years ONLY.

So that being said, I am hesitant to use the "recommended" CentOS 7 which is only supported to the end of 2024, which is only 2.5 years from now. I don't want to have to build/configure a new server ahead of schedule, just because my server OS went out-of-support!

I know ahead of time CentOS 7 only has 2.5 years of life left in it. So why install it on a brand-new bare metal server being built today?

CentOS-WebPanel Bugs / Re: PHPMyAdmin not working from Userpanel

That solution used to lock up for a couple weeks.

I tried it again today, and it worked. It did solve the problem. So the problem fixed itself. Original problem itself is a mystery.

CentOS-WebPanel Bugs / phpMyAdmin disappeared from /pwa link

phpMyAdmin TOTALLY DISAPPEARED FOR ME about 10 days ago.

My link (I realize this only works on my local network -- it worked great before)
https://192.168.1.20:2031/pma/

Now gives a

404 Not Found
cwpsrv

Error.

phpMyAdmin was working FINE before. Did some update break it?

What logs can I look at, where can I check for the phpMyAdmin software, and how can I manually install or update it, so it comes back?

Please advise.

This is the SECOND TIME this has happened.

All my "php" and "php-cgi" (for all versions) suddenly went NON-EXECUTABLE for all users, including root!

What would cause this?

I had to manually go and chmod +x each of them.

ALSO, at the same time, some kind of Apache config was clobbered -- I had to add a new line to .htaccess for EACH of my websites:
DirectoryIndex index.php

This was set by default in apache before.

Again, why did my existing CFG get clobbered?
