Install PHP 8.X - PHP Version Switcher
« on: September 25, 2022, 01:11:56 PM »
I am updating my PHP to version 8.0.23 by option PHP Version Switcher who has in CWP panel.

It does the entire installation process, it shows build complete in the log, but it still doesn't leave the 7.4.30 version that I installed when I first installed the CWP panel.

Follows complete log that shows when you are doing the installation of PHP.

Everyone has skipped over PHP 8.0.x for 8.1.x, including ionCude & WHMCS.

You can follow this to get PHP 8.1.x switched in CWP:

Or if, for some odd reason you still want 8.0x:

PHP 7.4 is EOL tomorrow.

Even though PHP 8.1 is a selectable option in CWP's PHP Switcher, it still fails to "switch" from PHP 7.4 to PHP 8.1. The process runs and shows it completed but PHP 7.4 remains.

Is this still the only method of "switching" to PHP 8.1?

UPDATE: After running PHP Switcher a second time, it did update to PHP 8.1. Not sure why it did not complete on the first go around. Didn't see any errors in the rebuild log. So it would seem that the workaround linked above is no longer necessary; just use the CWP Admin->PHP Settings->PHP Version Switcher

I tried both ways, both unsuccessful.

I believe that it is actually due to the specifications of my VPS, it currently has 1GB RAM, I will be increasing it to 2GB RAM and testing again.

Ouch! And I thought my 16GB server was tight by modern standards! But several of my CentOS VMs only have 4-5GB allocated to them, so it is doable to provision them thin.
