Title: New terminal not dealing with UTF8 input correctly
Post by: 6Sense on October 31, 2026, 12:07:21 AM
Hi CWP devs,

1.26 & beyond has given us a new terminal to work with however it is not dealing with UTF8 input/output correctly.

UTF8 characters are getting modified somehow on paste into terminal, they should be preserved when sending keyboard/paste input to the shell. Output of UTF8 characters is also wrong as can be seen by the below test.

[root@srv ~]# echo "COPY PASTE TEST 123"
COPY PASTE TEST 123
[root@srv ~]# printf '\xE2\x96\x88
> '

Please take a look at this as it prevents me from using Expo when developing as I am unable to output a QR code in terminal eg: my development work stops.

This is what the output of an Expo QR code currently looks like in new CWP terminal

Starting project at /home/xxx/mobile
Using src/app as the root directory for Expo Router.
React Compiler enabled
Starting Metro Bundler

warning: Bundler cache is empty, rebuilding (this may take a minute)

If i paste printf '\303\251\n' into the terminal it pastes it as printf 'é ,this is not what I pasted.

I can't even type \ into the terminal, it does nothing.

Funny, the old integrated terminal has been broken for so long I didn't think to try it out under the new UI. Thanks for pointing it out. It does default to root and a /bin/sh shell. Do you have any better success in bash or with another user with a more set-up environment? My default admin user shell is zsh, not even a default install on AlmaLinux!

I just switched to putty as a work around. Gotta get my work done!
